Many of our dog clients get excited driving in the driveway, or as they enter Ashhurst and they understand they are on their way to what is in effect, kindergarten. For this reason we offer doggie day care as a service, where you can leave your canine companion to play to his hearts content while you work. There are very practical advantages for your pet, Bazil, pictured here with his mate Sam, came to stay five days a week for his formative months, as he was imported to be a stud and show dog. However, he was not confident with strangers and particularly children since the kids next door had teased him. He was also not confident with other dogs, which is not a good trait for a show dog. He also had boundless youthful enthusiasm and would create havoc if left to his own devices. With those teething troubles behind him he is now successfully competing in shows, and his youthful enthusiasm hasn't left him.

Consider river runs during the summer months, and when your dog is in for a long stay. The Manawatu river is accessible most of the year, and we ensure your dogs safety by exercising them in a harness, so there is no risk of them getting into trouble with swift water or snags amongst fallen trees. Towel dying is in order before travel back to the kennels via shuttle, and most dogs enjoy the rough and tumble that comes with trying to spread the water they have accumulated as far as possible.

On occasion there is very valid reason for having your pet looked after in your home. An example of this was a dog named Trinity. Trinity is fear aggressive in the kennel environment and boarding is a thoroughly miserable experience for her. She is a danger to herself, other animals, and the staff trying to care for when she is so outside her comfort zone. While she was not delighted to see us appear at her property twice daily, she found it a far more copeable strategy and was considerably easier to handle.

When caring for cats in your home, we will need access to the house and insist that the cat is confined to the house. This is because cats are prone to wandering when there isn�t company available, and can get locked in other people�s sheds, or move in on other territories looking for food. If you are not equipped with dirt trays etc for housing your cat inside we are happy to provide that for you. We can bring in the mail, put out the rubbish and water pot plants also if you require.

For a small additional fee we can send pictures of your pets via email while you are away. At first glance this may seem a bit frivolous, but our experience has shown that this service can provide great comfort to people who have been hospitalized with physical and/or mental difficulties. Pictured here are William, Osca, and Jack, who stayed with us for 6 months (quarantine) prior to being exported to the UK. 6 months is a long time to wait, so photos were sent to the folks for Christmas, tinsel and all.
